Governor Lamont Re-Appoints Matt Fleury as Board of Regents Chair

9/06/2019

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is re-appointing Matt Fleury to serve a second term as chair of the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education (BOR). Fleury has served as BOR chair since 2016 and has been a member of the board since 2011.

The BOR is the governing body for the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) system, which consists of four state universities, 12 community colleges, and Charter Oak State College.

In addition to his service on the board, Fleury is president and CEO of the Connecticut Science Center in downtown Hartford, leading the center’s ambitious educational agenda to serve children, families, schools, and educators.

“Matt’s leadership at the Connecticut Science Center has inspired countless young people to explore careers in STEM fields, and his leadership on the Board of Regents has put our state colleges and universities in a stronger position,” Governor Lamont said. “Matt has exactly the right experience and leadership style to ensure our public system of higher education is in a position to help get our state moving again.”

“The Board of Regents is unwaveringly focused on maintaining the highest quality educational options for Connecticut students,” Fleury said. “All 17 institutions within the state college and university system offer pathways for residents, regardless of their background or life circumstances, to experience the rigors of higher education, grow as individuals, and earn a degree. I look forward to working with Governor Lamont and President Ojakian to maintain access to our institutions while improving student success.”

Fleury is a graduate of Berkshire Community College and Charter Oak State College. He earned his MBA from the UConn School of Business.

“Matt’s vision for public higher education as a vehicle for personal and societal improvement is built on personal experience,” CSCU President Mark Ojakian said. “As a community college graduate, he has a unique understanding of the needs of students. As a leader in the STEM field, he recognizes that our schools are the talent pipeline for Connecticut’s economic future. In short, he has been a highly effective Board of Regents chair, and I appreciate Governor Lamont’s vote of confidence in the direction of the CSCU system.”

The appointment is effective immediately and ends June 30, 2022.
