(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that – in accordance with a presidential proclamation directing flags to be lowered throughout the country in honor of U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens – U.S. and state flags in Connecticut will fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. A funeral for Justice Stevens is scheduled to be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. on that date.
Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered during this same duration of time.
“Justice Stevens lived a modest life but is leaving a legacy that will have a lasting impact on the history of our great country,” Governor Lamont said. “On behalf of the State of Connecticut, we send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues on the nation’s highest court.”
