(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz today announced the members of the Governor’s Council on Women and Girls Steering Committee. Made up of small business owners, corporate leaders, non-profit organizations, labor organizations, educators, law professionals, and women’s rights advocates, the Steering Committee will work with state leaders on the Council to provide a coordinated response to issues that impact the lives of women and girls in Connecticut.

Members of the Committee were introduced at today’s Council on Women and Girls meeting. They will support the goals and objectives of one or more of the Council’s four subcommittees, each of which represent a Council priority: Leadership, Health and Safety, Economic Opportunity and Workforce Equity, and Education and STEAM.

“We are proud to announce the steering committee for the first-ever Council on Women and Girls in our state,” Governor Lamont said. “This committee is made up of talented and diverse community leaders that will continue to deliver on our administration’s commitment to gender equality and opportunity. Focusing on education and STEAM; economic opportunity and workforce equity; leadership; and health and safety will also ensure that women and girls have every opportunity to determine their future and make a good living for themselves and their families.”

“I’d like to thank everyone who agreed to lend their talents and expertise to the Steering Committee in order to ensure that the Council on Women and Girls is best prepared to address the issues faced by women and girls in Connecticut,” Lt. Governor Bysiewicz said. “Our administration has already delivered on several key promises, including the passage of Paid Family Medical Leave, a $15 minimum wage, and the Time’s Up Act. We also updated state employee policies on domestic violence and appointed women to lead half of our state agencies for the first time in our state’s history. As chair of the Council, I look forward to working closely with private, public and non-profit partners to advance women and girls in our state.”
