(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that the state’s Consumer Counsel, Elin Swanson Katz, has chosen to leave her position with the state effective July 5, 2019 to pursue her passion for improving broadband access for Connecticut’s citizens.
“Elin has been a passionate advocate for all of Connecticut’s citizens for nearly eight years,” Governor Lamont said. “Her expertise and experience has helped ensure Connecticut consumers have an advocate on their side and no doubt that advocacy will continue as she begins working to bring broadband and 5G technology – and its transformative powers – to all Connecticut consumers.”
“Serving as Consumer Counsel has been the privilege of my career,” Swanson Katz said. “It has been such an honor to represent the consumers of Connecticut for almost eight years and it has been an experience that has shaped my view of the world and the people and the businesses that we serve.”
The Office of Consumer Counsel is an independent state agency with statutory responsibility to represent customers of Connecticut’s five regulated utilities – electric, gas, water, telephone, and to some extent, cable television, primarily in matters that go before the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority. The office is authorized to participate on behalf of consumer interests in all administrative and judicial forums and in any matters in which the interests of consumers with respect to public utility matters may be involved.
The Office of the Governor will soon begin the process of identifying a new Consumer Counsel.
