Internship at the Connecticut Department of Social Services

Overview

Thank you for your interest in an internship with the Connecticut Department of Social
Services! Our intention is to provide an opportunity for students to use and build upon existing
skills, learn new skills, expand their experience, and be exposed to policy and practice in state
government. All internship opportunities are non-paid.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) delivers and funds a wide range of programs and
services as Connecticut’s multi-faceted health and human services agency. DSS serves about 1
million residents of all ages in all 169 Connecticut cities and towns. We support the basic needs
of children, families, older and other adults, including persons with disabilities. Services are
delivered through 12 field offices, central office, and online and phone access options.

Graduate Student Internship Opportunities

DSS seeks graduate students with an interest in public service.  An emphasis on social services is preferred, but we welcome applicants from a variety of academic disciplines and majors.  We are looking for students with the following, but not limited to, areas of interest:

Since the academic requirements to earn educational credits of participating institutions vary, each intern should provide the requirements and any necessary documentation that must be completed by DSS to demonstrate successful completion of internship. 

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis however, the deadlines for applications are as follows:

  • Spring Semester Internship:
    • December 1st
  • Summer Semester internship:
    •  April 1st
  • Fall Semester internship: 
    • August 1st

Applicants are required to submit one or more of the following documents for consideration, based on the preference of the Division:
