“Lisa is truly deserving of this prestigious award given her remarkable leadership and contributions to nursing and public health,” stated Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. J. Robert Galvin. “She is an outstanding example of the modern nurse leader, using both her nursing and executive skills to improve the health of Connecticut residents.”
Ms. Davis is a member of the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs, the newly elected President of the Northern Connecticut Chapter of the Black Nurses Association, Chi Eta Phi (nursing) Sorority Inc, Connecticut Association of Public Health Nurses, Connecticut Public Health Association, Hartford Public High School Nursing Academy Advisory Committee, Goodwin College Board of Trustees, Board of Directors American Red Cross Blood Donor Services and recently appointed to the Donoghue Foundation’s Policy Advisory Committee. She also serves on the Town of Glastonbury’s Human Relations Commission.
The award was established to honor founding dean of the UConn School of Nursing, Carolyn L. Widmer for her exemplary nursing leadership. Widmer served as dean of nursing from 1942 to 1967. On October 23, 2010 a banquet will be held at the UConn Storrs campus where Ms. Davis will be presented with the award.
