Menstrual Equity Law
Menstrual Equity Law
Following the passage of state laws in 2022 and 2023, public schools and certain shelters are required to provide free menstrual products in the restrooms of their facilities. The intention of the law is to address period poverty, meaning the struggle to purchase period products due to lack of income.
The school guidance documents linked below is designed to support schools, students, and communities in implementing the requirements of the law, with recommendations to ensure that no student experiences stigma or shame in accessing menstrual products regardless of gender, ability, language, or socioeconomic status.
Although only shelters and domestic violence agencies that receive certain state funding are required to comply with the requirements to provide products, the shelter guidance document can be used as a resource for any shelter, agency, or community organization seeking support in implementing menstrual equity for communities facing homelessness.
