DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING COMPLETES FINANCING FOR FIVE NEW AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECTS

 

The Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH), along with the Connecticut Finance Housing Authority (CHFA), is announcing today that it has signed financing agreement for five projects that will create a total of 225 affordable housing units. DOH is providing a total of $23,199,318 in financing for projects in Montville, Salisbury, East Hartford, Madison and Norwalk.

 

The total development cost across those projects is $96,823,016, and the units will be earmarked for residents making between 25% and 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

 

These financing agreements mean those projects are now ready to begin construction.

 

“DOH is working tirelessly to get more affordable housing units online as quickly as possible,” said Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno. “We’re working with housing authorities and developers across Connecticut to get their projects to the point where shovels are going into the ground.”

 

The projects are of varying sizes and financing totals:

 

  • Oxoboxo, Montville – This project consists of the historic restoration and conversion of an early 20th century historic mill complex and will entail the rehabilitation of 11 buildings comprising a total of 72 residential units, of which 57 units, as well as 15 supportive housing units for homeless, will be subject to affordability restrictions. Units will be restricted to those making 25%-60% AMI. DOH is contributing $6 million in financing.

 

  • Sarum Village III, Salisbury – This project includes the construction of 10 residential units that will be restricted to those making between 25%-80% AMI. DOH is contributing a total of $3,385,000 in financing for this project.

 

  • Wellington at Madison, Madison – This includes the renovation and new construction of 31 residential units in six buildings, of which 24 residential units will be subject to affordability restrictions. Those units will be restricted to those making 25%-60% of AMI. DOH is contributing $4,088,318 in financing.

 

  • Oak Grove, Norwalk – The development plan for this project includes 69 affordable units in 18 walk-up apartment buildings containing two-to-six units each. Units will be restricted to those making between 30%-80% AMI. DOH is contributing $5.8 million in funding.

 

  • Easton Place, East Hartford – This project involves the substantial rehabilitation and preservation of 50 units of affordable housing, all of which are restricted to those making 30%-60% AMI. DOH is contributing $3,926,000 to the project.
