DEMHS Freedom of Information Requests and Safety Review
Guidance for Requests that Pose a Security or Safety Risk
Under the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act there are certain exemptions that prevent the release of information due to a security or safety risk to any person or public facility.
This limited exemption is eligible to municipalities, districts, or regional agencies that receive a FOI request and wish to withhold all or part of the requested records on the basis that there are reasonable grounds of a security or safety risk to any person or public facility.
The Chief Executive Officer of the municipality, district, or regional agency must request a determination of the safety risk from the Commissioner of DESPP. Such requests may be sent to Attorney Kimberly Zigich.
If the FOI request comes to a State Executive Agency the safety risk determination must be requested from the State Department of Administrative Services.
Please see guidance below regarding these items.
