What is a Civil Preparedness Emergency?
In the event of a natural or man made disaster, or if there is an imminent threat of such disaster, the Governor is authorized to declare a Civil Preparedness Emergency. This is commonly known as State of Emergency.
What Does it Authorize?
In the event the Governor declares a Civil Preparedness Emergency, pursuant to Conn. Gen. Stat. §28‐9, the Governor may take control of any or all parts of the civil preparedness forces and functions within the State. The Governor may also take such actions as are reasonably necessary to protect the health, safety and welfare of the people of the state, to prevent or minimize loss or destruction of property, and to minimize the effects of hostile action. How May I Be Affected?
Every civil preparedness emergency is different and may result in different protective actions on behalf of members of the public. During crisis situations it is important to Stay Informed so you will know how a Civil Preparedness Emergency may affect you. Examples of possible affects include:

- Government Facility and Service Closure
- Private Industry Closure
