DEEP Issues RFP for Food Beverage and Campground Concession Services at Lake Waramaug State Park
DEEP’s Partnership in Parks Initiative Continues to Enhance Experiences & Services in State Parks
(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking a qualified concessionaire to operate food, beverage, and campground store services at Lake Waramaug State Park in Kent and New Preston.
Issued through DEEP’s Division of State Parks & Public Outreach, the RFP invites experienced vendors to submit proposals to provide concession services to park visitors under a three-year contract, with the option for extensions in one-year increments. The selected concessionaire will receive the exclusive right to operate the concession building at the park.
Lake Waramaug State Park welcomes approximately 50,000 day-use visitors and 10,000 campers annually and offers swimming, boating, picnicking, camping, and scenic views of one of Connecticut’s most iconic lakes. The concession facility has been without food service operations since 2023, and DEEP is seeking to restore and expand this amenity to enhance the visitor experience.
This request for proposals is part of a broader Partnerships in Parks Initiative that is considering concessions, rentals, performances, stewardship programs, and other partnerships that can elevate outdoor recreation experiences for all visitors, increase equitable access to the outdoors, and expand tourism destinations in Connecticut State Parks. Businesses and organizations interested in partnership opportunities with Connecticut State Parks are encouraged to submit ideas through an open Request for Information (RFI).
“Lake Waramaug State Park is one of Connecticut’s most cherished outdoor destinations, drawing visitors for its natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and camping experiences,” said DEEP Commissioner Katie Dykes. “By activating this concession through our Partnerships in Parks initiative, we are enhancing services for visitors while creating opportunities for local businesses to contribute to the park’s vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.”
Proposers must demonstrate relevant food, beverage, and campground concession experience, the ability to meet required operating schedules, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. DEEP encourages proposals that reflect quality service, competitive pricing, and offerings appropriate for a high-use state park and campground setting.
“This request for proposals represents a great opportunity for businesses to connect with the public in one of Connecticut’s most valued shared spaces. We encourage innovative, locally inspired offerings that reflect the character of Lake Waramaug State Park and serves the needs of our visitors,” said State Parks Director Brian Wilson.
The RFP is available on the CTsource Bid Board as solicitation number DEEP-2026-016-MM, and proposals are due May 22, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. EST. To apply, visit the CTsource Bid Board and enter DEEP-2026-016-MM in the search field.
A voluntary site visit is scheduled for May 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. EST. Written questions must be submitted by May 12, 2026, and responses to questions will be posted on May 15, 2026.
