DEEP EnCon Police Arrest Man On Charges of Attempted Sexual Assault and Other Charges

(HARTFORD)--On July 13, 2026, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police responded to Kettletown State Park in the Town of Southbury on a report of an assault. Southbury Police Officers also responded to assist in the investigation. Upon arrival, officers arrested Darius Moreno, 23, of Southbury.

It was reported that Moreno threatened two juveniles with a knife and attempted to sexually assault them. It was also reported that the juveniles resisted and fought off Moreno’s attempts and were able to get assistance from other park patrons. Moreno was processed at Connecticut State Police Troop A and was held on a $250,000 bond. Moreno was arraigned in Connecticut Superior Court in Waterbury on July 14, 2026.

  • CGS; 53a-181 Breach of Peace 2 counts
  • CGS; 53a-183b Interfering with an emergency call
  • CGS; 53a-61 Assault in the Third Degree 2 counts
  • CGS; 53a-62 Threatening 2 counts
  • CGS; 53a-64cc Strangulation in the Third Degree
  • CGS; 53a-49/53a-72 Criminal Attempt at Sexual Assault in the Third Degree 2 counts
  • CGS; 53a-95 Unlawful Restraint 1st degree 2 counts
  • RCSA; 23-4-1(o) Disorderly Conduct
  • CGS; 53-206 Carrying a Dangerous Weapon
