MEDIA ADVISORY: DEEP Fish with CARE and No Child Left InsideĀ® Offer a FREE Saltwater Fishing Day on Saturday, August 9

(HARTFORD) –The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s No Child Left Inside® (NCLI) Families in the Parks Program and the Fish with CARE Program will co-host a family-friendly Saltwater Fishing Day at Fort Trumbull State Park in New London on Saturday, August 9.

The event is free and open to all. DEEP‘s Fish with CARE Program will provide bait, fishing gear, and expert fishing instruction from staff and volunteer fishing coaches. Participants ages 16 years and older must obtain a 1-day fishing license through the Online Sportsmen Licensing System. However, August 9 is a Free Fishing License Day in Connecticut, so there will be no fee!

Catch a free ride to Saltwater Fishing Day on the ParkConnect Bus, which leaves from the Norwich Park & Ride, located at 181 West Town Street, W Town/Courtyard stop on Southeast Area Transit (SEAT) Route 5). Saltwater Fishing Day also is one of the activities included in DEEP’s ParkConneCT excursion to Harkness Memorial and Fort Trumbull State Parks. ParkConneCT provides free transportation in an ADA accessible, air conditioned DATTCO charter bus.  Pre-registration is required online, and seats are limited.
