Colchester Man Arrested after ATV Crash in Salmon River State Forest

(Hartford, CT) – The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police arrested Damon Jansky (DOB 06/29/1993) of Colchester, CT today on charges of Operating an ATV Under the Influence, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Operating An Unregistered ATV, and Illegal Use of an ATV in a State Forest after a single ATV crash within the Salmon River State Forest, East Hampton.  

On 05/17/2025, EnCon Police were notified of an ATV rollover crash with serious injuries within the Salmon River State Forest, East Hampton. The investigation revealed that Jansky was operating an ATV in the State Forest when it rolled over an embankment ultimately ejecting Jansky and a female passenger off the ATV. Both occupants were transported to area hospitals for their injuries.   

As a result of the investigation, EnCon Police applied for and subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for Jansky through Connecticut Superior Court, Geographical Area 9 at Middletown (GA 9). 

On 6/27/2025, Jansky was arrested and processed for the warrant. Jansky was released on a $40,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at GA 9 in Middletown on 7/11/2025.

Charges: C.G.S. 14-386a(3); Operating an ATV Under the Influence, C.G.S. 53a-63; Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, C.G.S. 14-380; Operating an Unregistered ATV, and Regulation of CT State Agency R.C.S.A. 23-4-2(e); Illegal Operation of ATV in State Forest.
