ADVISORY-DEEP Lowers Caution Issued for CT River Users Following East Windsor Sewer Line Repair

(HARTFORD)—The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is updating its advisory related to the sanitary sewer break that occurred in East Windsor.

On Friday, April 4, 2025, the Town of East Windsor successfully halted the release through an emergency bypass repair, and a long-term fix is currently being developed.

At this time, there is no longer an elevated public safety risk associated with the discharge. Flows in the Connecticut River have returned to normal seasonal conditions, and the release significantly diluted by recent rainfall and river movement. Out of an abundance of caution, the Town of East Windsor is conducting instream sampling to confirm that water quality has returned to normal levels.

While no further precautions are currently recommended, DEEP will continue to coordinate with the town and monitor the situation as needed.
