DEEP to Hold Informational Meeting on Pachaug Pond Dam Repair Project June 23

Virtual Presentation by DEEP Staff and the Project Consultant, Those Interested Can Attend in Person or Remotely

(HARTFORD) – The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will host a public informational meeting June 23 to discuss an upcoming project that will repair and improve the Pachaug Pond dam in Griswold.

The repairs and improvements will include partial concrete encasement of the existing spillway, a new low-level drawdown structure with associated piping, earthwork associated with increasing the height of the dam, articulated block overtopping protection of the embankment, riprap erosion protection on the upstream embankment, a new timber boardwalk fishing platform, a new precast concrete boat ramp, and miscellaneous demolition and masonry repairs.

A contractor for the project was selected through a competitive bidding process and the dam repairs are scheduled to begin in August 2021 with a 3-foot draw down of the pond beginning after Labor Day (September 6, 2021).  The dam and boat launch will be closed to the public during construction for public safety.  The project is scheduled to be completed by July 2022.

The public meeting will be held from 7 p.m. -9 p.m. on June 23 at the Griswold High School Auditorium, located at 267 Slater Avenue in Griswold.  DEEP staff, along with staff from Macchi Engineers, the project consultant, will provide a virtual presentation outlining the project. Ample time will be provided on the agenda for public input and for Q&A about the project. The meeting will also be streaming live on Channel 22 thanks to the Griswold High School Technology Department. Remote viewers will be able to submit their questions during the meeting to an email address that will be available during the live stream.
