The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to host public meeting on Sleeping Giant State Park master planning efforts

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is hosting a public meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11 in Hamden to discuss future restoration plans for Sleeping Giant State Park. The public meeting is part of a “mini-master planning” effort to restore and enhance sections of the park seriously damaged in a 2018 tornado and macro burst storm.

Since that time, Connecticut State Parks staff, contractors, and volunteers from the Sleeping Giant Park Association have been working to clean up damage to buildings and the landscapes from the storm. Now that the damaged buildings and trees have been removed, the lower portion of the park is ready for restoration and enhancement.

The public meeting includes a brief overview of the storm damage, cleanup efforts and initial planning, and then an opportunity for members of the community to ask questions and provide their thoughts on what elements they would like to see incorporated into the final master planning. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Hamden Town Hall, 2750 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT.
