Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. Frances’ Fearless Women

Who’s your favorite heroine?  Which women inspire you?  From May 11 through June 10, in celebration of Frances Osborne Kellogg’s 142nd birthday, the Osborne Homestead Museum will be exhibiting some of the collections’ fearless women.  Learn about Massagetean Warrior Queen Tomyris, Chinese Goddess of Compassion Quan Yin, and other remarkable women.

The Osborne Homestead Museum, a facility of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, is open for free guided tours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The museum is located at 500 Hawthorne Avenue off of Route. 34 in Derby.  For additional information call (203) 734-2513 or email susan.d.robinson@ct.gov
