Bird in Hand Banding Demonstration

2018 is the Year of the Bird!  It is also the centennial of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, an important piece of legislation that continues to save birds’ lives.  To celebrate bird conservation, the Kellogg Environmental Center is hosting a special Bird in Hand program on Sunday, May 20.
The public is invited to register for either a 9:00 am or 10:00 am presentation by Corrie Folsum-O’Keefe and members of Connecticut Audubon.  Observe bird banding and learn how bird research provides insight into understanding our environment and changes in it.  Corrie is the Bird Conservation Program Manager for the Connecticut Audubon facilities located in Southbury, Sharon, and Greenwich.
The program also includes a presentation and tour of a photo exhibit by Sophie Zyla entitled Birds in Hand.  This photo display of birds documents banding actions with information on demographics and the data provided by banding and tracking activities.  The photo display is open to the public through June 7.

This free program is recommended for adults and children over the age of ten accompanied by an adult.  Registration is required and space is limited. To register or for further information please phone the Center at (203)734-2513 or email donna.kingston@ct.gov.
The Kellogg Environmental Center, a facility of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, is located at 500 Hawthorne Avenue off of Route 34 in Derby.  The Center is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
