Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. DEEP EnCon Police Arrest Suspect for Running over Geese

On Sunday, June 10, 2018 at approximately 08:19 hours, Waterbury Police Department received a 911 emergency call from a witness who observed an individual drive over multiple Canada Geese with their vehicle on North Main Street in front of the Knotty Pine package store in Waterbury.  The witness alleged the suspect illegally passed two vehicles on the shoulder who were stopped for the Canada Geese crossing North Main Street, and drove over multiple Geese Goslings, killing at least one.  The witness was able to get the license plate of the offending vehicle and relay it to the Waterbury Police Department.  Shortly after, the suspect who was identified as Moses Wilson (Age 70) from Waterbury contacted the Waterbury Police Department and admitted to driving over several Canada Geese on North Main Street.  Wilson was detained by Waterbury PD. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) were notified about the incident. 
During the investigation it was determined through witness statements that Wilson intentionally drove his vehicle over the Canada Geese as they crossed the roadway.  DEEP EnCon Police obtained video surveillance footage showing Wilson’s black sedan driving over the Canada Geese (Adults and Goslings) as they attempted to cross North Main Street. 

Wilson was arrested for allegedly committing the following violations; Cruelty to Animals, Illegal Method of Taking Waterfowl, Taking Waterfowl during Closed Season, and Passing on the Right.  Wilson was released on a $1500.00 dollar non-surety bond with a court date of 6/20/18 at G.A. 4 Waterbury.
