Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. The Stars at Kellogg Environmental Center

Special Photo Exhibit of Celebrities Who Lectured and Performed in Derby

During the early to mid-1900s, Derby, Connecticut was once a hot spot for world famous performances and celebrities.  Throughout the month of September, the Osborne Homestead Museum is featuring a special photo exhibition of celebrities who lectured and performed in Derby’s Sterling Opera House.  Visit the museum throughout the month of September and see the “stars.” 
As president of the Women’s Club of Ansonia, Derby, and Shelton, Frances Osborne Kellogg, who owned the home, brought luminaries, such as aviatrix Amelia Earhart, poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, and composer Henry Burleigh to the Naugatuck Valley area. 
The Osborne Homestead Museum, located at 500 Hawthorne Avenue off of Rte. 34 in Derby, is  open for free guided tours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. through October 29, 2017.
