DEEP to Unveil Winning Photo for 2017 Angler’s Guide Cover at the 11th Annual Winter Festival, Burr Pond State Park
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will unveil the winning cover shot in the 2017 Angler’s Guide Photo contest at a 1:00 p.m. ceremony during DEEP’s Winter Festival on Saturday, February 4 at Burr Pond State Park, 384 Burr Mountain Road, Torrington. Now in its fourth year, the Angler’s Guide photo contest is a popular and much anticipated event.
Winter Festival
DEEP’s 11th annual free family Winter Festival provides fun for the entire family including many exciting and fun winter activities taking place from 10:00 a.m. -- 3:00 p.m. As part of the No Child Left Inside® initiative, youngsters and adults can spend time together outdoors and try snowshoeing, play winter games, and view a host of demonstrations including a demo from Resources in Search and Rescue. Families may also gather around a bonfire for a good old-fashioned marshmallow roast.

“DEEP’s Angler’s Guide is an important reference tool for anglers in Connecticut where we are proud to showcase the many species of fish that can be caught in Connecticut waters,” said Robert Klee, Commissioner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. “This year I encourage all of you to take someone you care about outdoors for a fine day of fishing on the waters of our beautiful state.”
DEEP’s annual Angler's Guide provides information on important rules and regulations governing sport fishing in Connecticut and assists in the enjoyment of the angling experience. The printing and distribution of the 2017 guide is scheduled for late March. There are no new inland (freshwater) regulations for 2017. Changes to the marine (saltwater) regulations will be published in the 2017 guide.
DEEP’s cover photo contest encourages anglers to submit fishing-related digital images to DEEP for consideration. The annual contest requires the images to be outdoor Connecticut scenes that include one or more people fishing or displaying a catch from Connecticut’s waters. High quality photos that are submitted to DEEP for this contest but that do not make the cover are often used to showcase the tremendous fishing within Connecticut. Images are used in DEEP’s electronic newsletter, CT Fishin’ Tips, DEEP’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, and in other publications and presentations for the public.
All anglers and photographers are encouraged to begin sending photos to DEEP for the 2018 Angler’s Guide cover contest. This popular contest has resulted in DEEP receiving hundreds of photos for consideration over the past years, and expect that next year’s contest will be even more popular among anglers and photographers alike.
