Who are we?
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Policy (DEEP) is charged with conserving, improving and protecting Connecticut's natural resources and environment as well as making affordable, clean and reliable energy available for the people and businesses of the state. The agency is also committed to playing a positive role in building Connecticut's green economy and fostering a sustainable and prosperous economic future.
The Bureau of Energy and Technology Policy (BETP) is the place where energy and technology policy is developed in Connecticut. BETP addresses some of the biggest energy policy challenges in the region and the country. Creating an energy future that is affordable, clean, and resilient is exciting but also extremely challenging.
What will you do?
As a Data Strategy Advisor, you will be on the front lines of developing and articulating Connecticut energy and technology policy. From market design to energy program and procurement analysis, your job is to ensure that DEEP energy and technology data is streamlined, clear, and effective.
Reporting directly to the Deputy Commissioner for Energy at DEEP, you will:
- Manage all presentations and analyses shared with the Governor’s office, the legislature, and other critical stakeholders
- Build data sets that can be leveraged for policy analysis and recommendations
- Create graphics and presentations that simplify extremely complex energy concepts and data
- Identify opportunities for internal process improvement
- Draft strategic communications documents for internal and external audiences
- Manage external consultants to develop high quality work products
In short, your job is to ensure that the great work of BETP makes the biggest impact possible.
Who Are You?
Your first instinct is always “don’t just stand there, do something!” Your happy place is numbers and presentations. You are a world class listener and never afraid to ask the “stupid questions” to make sure you understand complex concepts. You are super passionate about energy policy (even if you don’t have a lot of experience in it) and are motivated to make an impact every day. You don’t mind a fun fire drill every now and then. Most importantly, you are insanely curious and have an almost unhealthy need to know how things work.
What Success Looks Like:
- Policy analyses and recommendations are accepted by the Governor and other key stakeholders without the need for further follow-up
- The BETP team feels supported every step of the way when developing work product for external audiences
- Key metrics of success at BETP are tracked and managed
- Decisions and approvals happen quicker and quicker
Requirements:
- Strong desire to work on energy policy
- 3+ years of work experience, with a combination of advanced modeling and presentation skills
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Experience working cross-functionally, both within an organization and with external partners
- Ability to commute to New Britain, CT once a week
Nice to Haves:
- Experience working in policy (government or otherwise)
- Experience working on energy issues
- Experience with advanced data analysis tools (Stata, PowerBI, Python, etc.)
- Ability to travel to Hartford 1-2 days a week
Salary, Benefits and Perks:
- Salary range $90,000 to $130,000 based on experience and qualifications
