  • Gov. Malloy Announces $7 Million in Grants for Brownfield Redevelopment in 12 Communities Throughout the State

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) will award $7 million to 12 brownfield redevelopment and assessment projects across the state, including $5.4 million to four remediation and redevelopment projects and $1.5 million to eight projects for assessment and investigation. Together, the projects will help clean up and assess a total of 462 acres of commercial, industrial and municipal properties.

  • Gov. Malloy Announces Opportunities to Remediate and Revitalize Brownfields in Connecticut

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) is now accepting applications for its eleventh round of competitive grant funding for the state’s Brownfield Remediation Program, under which the state partners with local municipalities and economic development agencies to put blighted properties back into productive use. Under this round, a total of $4 million will be earmarked for remediation projects and $1 million will be reserved for assessment projects.

Malloy today announced that Four Season Farm LLC, a newly formed venture created by a long-time Connecticut farmer, international greenhouse developer, and former Wall Street executive, will develop ten acres of land in Suffield as a hydroponic farm, where the company plans to create 40 new jobs over the next two years.

Malloy, joined by Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Commissioner Catherine Smith, today announced that DECD awarded $10,507,339 in loans and grants to remediate nine brownfields located throughout the state. Clinton, Hartford, Middletown, New Haven, Vernon, Waterbury, and Watertown will use the funding to clean up the polluted properties and redevelop the sites for affordable housing and mixed use development.
