Lemon Law Application Materials

All applications must be submitted online through the state's eLicense portal. Learn more about how to apply

To apply for the Lemon Law Program, applicants must provide:

  • Year, Make, Model and VIN
  • Purchase or Lease agreement (or car title, if owned)
  • Registration
  • Proof of notification to the manufacturer and leasing company (if applicable) of application
  • All repair records, recalls or evidence to support claim
  • Relevant photos or videos
  • Copy of notice to manufacturer or leasing company*

* Notifying the manufacturer or leasing company
You must notify the manufacturer by mail or e-mail of your intent to file under CT Lemon Law. You can find the email or mailing address in your warranty booklet.
Please upload a copy of your letter to the manufacturer with your Lemon Law application.

If you are leasing your vehicle, you must advise the leasing company that you are applying for Lemon Law Arbitration, and if they wish to be a party to the proceedings. They must advise DCP of their intent within 10 days of receiving your letter. The letter to the leasing company must be sent certified or registered, and a copy of the letter and postal receipt must be included with your application.

Selling the vehicle
If you sell the car after applying for Lemon Law Arbitration, you must notify the buyer of the case status. Before the sale, notify DCP within five days of the sale, and provide proof that the buyer was notified prior to the sale.
