A new law required the reclassification of a number of drugs, including kratom. Kratom is not currently a scheduled controlled substance. To make this change, the department has proposed regulations to designate kratom as a Schedule 1 controlled substance in Connecticut. The proposed regulations are available for review and open for public comment on the Connecticut Secretary of the State website.

A virtual Public Hearing regarding the scheduling of kratom as a Schedule 1 controlled substance in Connecticut will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Individuals may sign up in advance to speak at the public hearing.

Comments can be shared at the public hearing on October 15, 2025, or you can submit a written public comment no later than October 20, 2025. All public comments must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025.
