In Connecticut, consumers have three business days to cancel a home improvement contract. The consumer can cancel any time up to midnight on the third business day. Saturday is considered a legal business day, according to the Home Solicitation Sales Act.
The following days are not considered a "business day" in Connecticut: Sunday or any of the following business holidays New Year's Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
The contract must include a Notice of the Customer's Right to Cancel. This notifies customers they have three days to cancel the contract.
What is the cooling-off period?
The "cooling-off period" is the three days following a contract signing. No work should be started during this cooling-off period. In the event of an emergency that requires the work to completed immediately, a homeowner may sign a waiver, stating they waive their right to cancel.
