GIS Office Overview

A geographic information system (GIS) uses geospatial technology for analyzing and graphically depicting how cities, towns, and rural areas work and interact. It helps us understand spatial relationships between locations and can provide insights into development and planning issues.

The GIS Office’s mission is to improve coordination of geospatial data throughout the state. Our aim is to ensure everyone has access to authoritative data sets. This includes executive agencies, research academics, regional planners, municipal governments, and more.

Mission
The mission of the CT GIS Office is to effectively coordinate and promote the development and sharing of geospatial information for Connecticut stakeholders. We support the geospatial community by facilitating capacity-building, providing expertise, and establishing policies for the collection, management, and distribution of geospatial information.

Vision

The CT GIS Office will be the leader in data collection, analysis, and dissemination for the Connecticut geospatial community. We will serve as a center for collaboration, innovation, and excellence in GIS and will improve the quality and quantity of geospatial data to enable better decision-making.

2023 - 2028 Strategic Goals

Goal 1

Use effective governance, policies, and standards to manage geospatial data.

Goal 2

Implement a sustainable funding model for imagery acquisition, GIS data, and geospatial technologies.

Goal 3

Increase access to data, spatial analysis, web services, and visualization capabilities for local and regional governments, community organizations, the private sector, and other stakeholders.

Goal 4

Provide direct analytic support and enhance capacity building for State Agencies.

Goal 5

Broaden communication and engagement across different levels of government and other organizations.

Legislative Maps

The GIS Office within the DAPA division of the Office of Policy and Management has created a set of maps to provide greater clarity on legislative and congressional boundaries in Connecticut. These maps, available in PDF format, include the Connecticut House of Representatives, Connecticut State Senate, and U.S. Congress districts, and are designed to help residents identify their representatives and districts.
