In January, 2007, Governor M. Jodi Rell submitted testimony via DEP Commissioner Gina McCarthy regarding the Broadwater proposal at a public hearing held by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Connecticut. She later issued a separate public statement expressing her concerns about the proposal.
The FERC published its Final EIS on January 11, 2008. In response, Governor Rell issued a statement on January 17, 2008, describing a letter that she had sent to New York Governor Eliot Spitzer regarding the Broadwater proposal. In that letter Governor Rell made reference to a letter sent from the NY Department of Conservation to Broadwater indicating that permit applications filed with the agency were incomplete.
In December, 2007, the U.S. General Accountability Office (GAO) released a Maritime Security report on federal efforts needed to prevent and respond to terrorist attacks on energy commodity tankers.
The FERC published its Final EIS (0196F) on January 11, 2008.
In response to the Broadwater proposal, Governor Rell also formed a special task force, which has developed its own website [http://www.ctlng.state.ct.us/], to determine the potential impact of the proposed construction of a LNG processing facility in Long Island Sound. On March 13, 2008, that task force announced comments and concerns relative to the FERC Final EIS via a PowerPoint presentation. Related to those concerns the task force also sent a letter to the State of New York, and Governor Rell's office issued a press release indicating support for the findings of the task force.
