Career ConneCT program eligibility
How do I know if I am eligible to participate in the Career ConneCT program?
To be eligible, you need to be legally allowed to work in the United States and be either unemployed or underemployed. Underemployed means you are not currently connected to a full-time job that pays at the same level of your education, skills, or wage and/or salary earned previously, or you have obtained only episodic, short-term, or part-time employment.
What documentation will I need?
We'll ask for documents that we can use to make sure you're allowed to work in the United States. Here are some examples:
- Photo ID, such as a driver's license or non-driver ID
- Proof of address, such as a piece of mail
- Social Security card
- Birth certificate
- Green Card
- Working papers
Your case manager or career coach will confirm which documents you need to provide.
Do I have to be unemployed to participate in the Career ConneCT program?
No. You may also be eligible to participate in Career ConneCT if you:
- Are working part time
- Were displaced from your job due to COVID or are unable to look for a better job opportunity because of COVID
- Are underemployed, which means you are working but your job does not match your former wages or your education/skill level
- Have a job that is temporary, interim, per diem, on-and-off, or unstable
- Have a job but want to change careers for the opportunity to earn higher wages and advance in a career
Do I have to be a Connecticut resident to participate in the Career ConneCT program?
Not necessarily. If you are a resident of a nearby state and you work in Connecticut or want to train for a job in Connecticut, you may be eligible for Career ConneCT training. We encourage you to register and talk with your assigned case manager or career coach to find out if you are eligible.
Do I have to be an adult to participate in the Career ConneCT program?
People 16 and older may be eligible to participate in the Career ConneCT program. For more information or program specifics, please register and speak to your assigned case manager or career coach.
What if I am not legally authorized to work in the United States?
You must be legally authorized to work in the United States to receive Career ConneCT training and related services.
Does the Career ConneCT program offer priority to any particular populations?
Career ConneCT serves all eligible individuals effected by the Covid pandemic but the program is particularly focused on serving historically marginalized populations, including BIPOC+, youth, people who are currently incarcerated or re-entering their community, veterans, people with disabilities, individuals with low family income, and immigrants.
