To qualify, a patient needs to be diagnosed by a Connecticut-licensed physician, physician assistant (PA), or advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) as having one of the debilitating medical conditions that is specifically identified in the law.
If the patient is under 18 years of age, the parent(s) or guardian must identify two physicians that will confirm that the palliative use of marijuana is in the minor patient’s best interest.
- One of the physicians must be the patient’s primary care provider.
- The other physician must be board certified in an area of medicine involved in the treatment of the debilitating condition for which the qualifying patient will be certified and provide a letter confirming that the palliative use of marijuana is in the patient’s best interest. In addition, an inmate confined in a correctional institution or facility under the supervision of the Department of Correction will not qualify, regardless of their medical condition.
