• Attorney General Jepsen Partners with FTC to Promote Military Consumer Protection Day

  Our nation’s military families face unique challenges, such as frequent deployments and relocations, that make them particularly vulnerable to scam artists. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported over 62,000 consumer complaints from veterans, military families and service men and women in 2012 alone. To assist America’s military families and veterans avoid scams, Attorney General George Jepsen is joining with the FTC, consumer protection organizations and other private sector groups in the second annual Military Consumer Protection Day on Wednesday, July 16.

• Attorney General, DCP Urge Target Customers to Take Advantage of Free Credit Monitoring in Wake of Data Breach

  Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein today urged all Connecticut residents who shop at Target stores to take advantage of one year of free credit monitoring being offered by the retail company in the wake of the massive data breach announced last month.

Schriro today are advising residents to avoid responding to a letter claiming to be from Governor Dannel P. Malloy and bearing a replica of his signature.

  Attorney General George Jepsen is warning Connecticut consumers and businesses about an emerging computer virus known as "ransomware" and offering tips on how they can protect themselves from cyber-criminals as well as what to do if your computer has been infected.

• AG Jepsen to FDA: End Bottleneck Preventing Generic Nexium from Entering the Market

  In comments to a Citizen Petition filed with the Food and Drug Administration today, Attorney General George Jepsen called on the federal agency to expeditiously end several years of delays preventing the sale of a generic form of the drug esomeprazole magnesium, currently marketed under the brand name Nexium. Nexium is the second highest-selling pharmaceutical drug in the United States, and delays in approving generic versions have cost consumers and government healthcare payers billions of dollars.

• AG Jepsen: Connecticut Residents to Begin Receiving Refunds from EBook Lawsuit Settlements

  Consumers in Connecticut will begin receiving account credits or checks this week through the partial settlement of an eBook price-fixing lawsuit brought in 2012 by Attorney General George Jepsen and attorneys general from 32 other states.

• State Files Federal Lawsuit against Alleged Mortgage Rescue Scam

  Attorney General George Jepsen has obtained a temporary restraining order and appointment of a receiver in a joint lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida against Connecticut-based Resolution Law Group, Florida-based Berger Law Group, and related entities and individuals over allegations that they took advantage of struggling homeowners through a scam that promised legal assistance but delivered none.

• State Joins Global Settlement with Endo Pharmaceuticals Resolving Inappropriate Marketing Allegations

  Connecticut has joined a federal-state settlement with Endo Health Solutions Inc. and Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc. to resolve allegations that the companies inappropriately marketed the drug Lidoderm for conditions not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, Attorney General George Jepsen, Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane and state Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby announced today.

• AG, DCP Join Historic Multistate Lawsuit Against Four Sham Cancer Charities; Announce Settlement with Related Sham Charities

  Attorney General George Jepsen and the state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Jonathan A. Harris today announced that Connecticut, all 49 other states, the District of Columbia, and the Federal Trade Commission have jointly filed a federal lawsuit against four sham cancer charities and those responsible for their operation. A historic and cooperative effort, the states allege that Cancer Fund of America, Children's Cancer Fund of America, Cancer Support Services and The Breast Cancer Society made misrepresentations to donors by portraying themselves as legitimate charities that provided relief to cancer patients. In addition, the FTC and the plaintiff states charge the defendants with misrepresenting specific program benefits and violating the FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule, which prohibits deceptive charitable solicitations.

• AG Jepsen: Connecticut Joins Federal Settlement with AMC, Starplex Requiring Divestiture of Berlin Movie Theater

  Connecticut has joined the Department of Justice (DOJ) in a complaint and proposed settlement with AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. (AMC) and SMH Theaters, Inc. (Starplex Cinemas) to resolve concerns that AMC's purchase of a Connecticut Starplex theater would substantially harm competition for Connecticut consumers, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

• AG Jepsen, Consumer Counsel Katz Welcome PURA Draft Decision Delaying Any Closure of Eversource's Simsbury Work Center

  Attorney General George Jepsen and Consumer Counsel Elin Swanson Katz today welcomed a draft decision issued by the state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority that would delay the proposed closure of Eversource Energy's facilities in Simsbury until more information is known about the impact of previous closing of work centers around the state.

• AG Jepsen Files False Claims Act Complaint Alleging Psychiatrist Knowingly Submitted False Claims to the Connecticut Medicaid Program

  Attorney General George Jepsen announced today that he has filed a complaint in Hartford Superior Court under the Connecticut False Claims Act seeking treble damages and other relief stemming from an alleged long-running scheme to submit false claims to the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program (CMAP) from January 2010 through December 2014.

• AG Jepsen, Hartford Hospital, Contractor Reach Agreement Resolving Investigation into Breach of Unencrypted Patient Information

  Hartford Hospital and the EMC Corporation will pay $90,000 and have agreed to institute additional training and control measures to resolve an investigation into the 2012 theft of a laptop containing unencrypted patient information, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

• AG Jepsen Joins Coalition in Defense of EPA Clean Power Plan

  Attorney General George Jepsen announced today that Connecticut has joined a coalition of 25 states, cities and counties in filing a motion to intervene to defend the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean Power Plan against legal challenges.
