What transportation services are available to help me get around?

Looking to learn to drive a modified vehicle? Need to find a bus route to get you where you need to go? We have connections to help, whatever your transportation needs.

 

Driver Training Program

The Department of Motor Vehicles offers driver training for people with physical disabilities who must use special equipment to drive a modified vehicle in the state of Connecticut. The program provides evaluation, training, and license certification through the Department of Motor Vehicles. 

 

Mobility help for persons with legal blindness

Provided by the Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind, or BESB. Orientation and Mobility Instructors provide canes and other mobility aids for people with legal blindness of any age. They also offer training to safely travel in the community on foot, as well as using public transportation, paratransit services and other transit services available to seniors and to persons with disabilities.

 

Mobility Help for seniors, veterans and people with disabilities

Provided by the Department of Transportation. Mobility Ombudsmen in Connecticut connect seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities with accessible, reliable transportation so that they are able to participate in their communities. 

 

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Currently, VEYO oversees this service through a contract with the Department of Social Services.

  • If you do not have HUSKY/Medicaid, please call 2-1-1 for non-emergency transport in your area.

 

Paratransit Services for People with Disabilities

Provided by the Department of Transportation. Mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), paratransit services are provided in all areas with local fixed route bus services for people who can't use the local bus system due to their disability.

 

Public Transportation Access for Older Adults and People with Disabilities

Provided by the Department of Transportation and CT Transit. Find information on ADA accommodations on public transportation, including buses and trains. There are reduced fares available for older adults and people with disabilities. They also offer programs to help travelers learn how to use public transportation in ways that work for them.
