GOV. MALLOY & LT. GOV. WYMAN APPLAUD CONFIRMATION OF COMMISSIONER LINDA SCHWARTZ TO U.S. DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding today's confirmation by the U.S. Senate of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz to serve as the new Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Policy and Planning in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs:

Governor Malloy said, "Having served in the U.S. Air Force herself, Commissioner Schwartz knows first-hand the needs of our military men and women upon returning to civilian life. Her expertise will be of great benefit to veterans across the country, as well as those right here in Connecticut. I applaud her confirmation and wish her the best in this new role."

Lt. Governor Wyman said, "I thank Commissioner Schwartz for her dedication to veterans in Connecticut. She has been a clear voice for military men and women, working to address issues of homelessness, employment, and support. Her continued advocacy and commitment will be of great benefit for our nation's veterans."

Governor Malloy announced that Deputy Commissioner Joseph Perkins will serve in the role of Acting Commissioner of the state agency while a search is conducted for a permanent Commissioner.
