LT. GOVERNOR WYMAN, VETERANS CMSR. SCHWARTZ SEEKING NOMINATIONS FOR CONNECTICUT VETERANS HALL OF FAME

Applications Must Be Received by August 1

Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman and Dept. of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz today announced that the state is seeking nominations for the 2013 Connecticut Veteran's Hall of Fame, which recognizes distinguished veterans who have made significant contributions to their communities after leaving military service.

Approximately ten Connecticut veterans, living or deceased, are inducted each year based on recommendations from an executive committee and final selection by the Lt. Governor. Eighty-five current and former citizens of Connecticut have been inducted to date, including five recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Veterans who served in times of war and peace are eligible for nomination Applications should describe the nominee's contributions to their community, including the areas of education, public safety, volunteer organizations, health care, recreation, elected office and other areas of public service.

Nominees must:

- Have been born in Connecticut or resided here for at least five years.
- Meet the definition of a "veteran" under the Connecticut General Statutes 27-103.
- Have received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces.
- P rovide discharge papers verifying honorable military service.

The Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame is administered and sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Veterans' Affairs and the Connecticut Military Department on behalf of the Office of the Governor. Honorees are selected by an Executive Committee comprised of the Commissioner of the Department of Veterans' Affairs; Adjutant General of the Connecticut National Guard; three appointees selected by the Governor; and two appointees from the legislative branch - one from a Senate leader and one from a House leader.
