GOV. MALLOY DIRECTS FLAGS TO HALF-STAFF IN RECOGNITION OF PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy directed the U.S. and Connecticut flags to half-staff on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

"National Peace Officers Memorial Day is an opportunity to honor the service of our brave men and women in law enforcement," said Governor Malloy. "We are deeply appreciative of the work law enforcement does-both to protect and give aid to the citizens of Connecticut, as well as to offer their expertise and talents in our communities. We honor the sacrifices made by these officers, and will always remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty."

"It takes a special kind of person to go to work every day prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect others, and every one of the men and women we are remembering today was that kind of person," said Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman. "They may have come from different backgrounds and worn different uniforms, but what they all had in common was that they lived their lives with courage and brought honor to their department, their families, and to themselves."

National Peace Officers Memorial Day is observed annually and corresponds with Police Week.

Flags will fly at half-staff until sunset.
