Construction of the first State Memorial to honor Connecticut men and women who have served in America's military since Revolutionary War times will begin with an official ground breaking ceremony at Minuteman Park, the site of the Memorial. The Connecticut State Veterans Memorial will honor the more than 1.3 million Connecticut citizens who have served our nation, in defense of peace and freedom.

Veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, representing all five branches of the U.S. military -Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard - will participate in the event, and the design of the memorial will be unveiled to the public.

Speakers will include Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, Commissioner Linda S. Schwartz of the State Department of Veterans Affairs, and Major General Thaddeus Martin, Connecticut Adjutant General of the Connecticut National Guard.

The Connecticut State Veterans Memorial, Inc. (CSVM), a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, has been overseeing the development of the memorial. The organization consists of a solely volunteer board of directors. The CSVM is working with engineers in the Connecticut General Assembly's Office of Legislative Management and architects from BL Companies of Meriden, Conn. on this project.
