GOV. MALLOY: CONNECTICUT VETERANS PARADE RECOGNIZED BY VETERANS DAY NATIONAL COMMITTEE
For Third Consecutive Year, Connecticut Parade Is Chosen As Regional Site
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman and Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda S. Schwartz, announced today that the Connecticut Veterans Parade, held annually in Hartford, has been recognized by the Veterans Day National Committee as one of the nation's "Veterans Day Regional Sites." This is the third year that the Veterans Parade has been recognized by the National Committee.
"Connecticut is very honored to be recognized by the Veterans Day National Committee," said Governor Malloy. "Our troops and their families have sacrificed so much to serve this state and the country-we are deeply appreciative of their service and valor. I am grateful for the tremendous work Commissioner Schwartz and parade organizers have done to bring the state together to celebrate and pay tribute to our nation's heroes."
"This parade is a wonderful and important public tribute to the sacrifice of the veterans who have fought to keep us free, and to the military men and women who are now serving our country," said Lt. Governor Wyman. "Their courage and bravery will always be part of the fabric of Connecticut and the nation, and must never be forgotten."
The annual parade is attended by 40,000 spectators, with over 150 military and veterans groups, musical groups, and nearly 4,000 marchers from dozens of Connecticut towns participating in the day's events.
"The Connecticut Veterans Day Parade will be one of 62 sites across the nation that will stand as an example of remembrance and celebration of our brave veterans," said Commissioner Schwartz. "This is a great honor for the state of Connecticut, and is recognition of the tireless work of our veterans, and of the men and women who have worked to make the Connecticut Veterans Day Parade the largest Veterans Parade in New England."
The Connecticut Veterans Day Parade will be held in Hartford on Sunday November 4, 2012. For more information visit www.ctveteransparade.org .
