GOV. MALLOY APPOINTS ROBERT STEIN AS CHAIRMAN OF CONNECTICUT SITING COUNCIL
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced he has appointed Robert "Robin" Stein of Stamford to be a member of the Connecticut Siting Council. Additionally, he has nominated Stein to be Chairman of the Council, which requires legislative approval.

Stein most recently served as Land Use Bureau Chief for the City of Stamford, a position he held for fifteen years. In that role, he was responsible for executing some of the city's most ambitious projects, including the implementation of the city's master plan, open space acquisition, park and neighborhood planning, affordable housing developments, downtown revitalization and traffic management.

"Robin's keen knowledge of the laws and regulations concerning the issues for which the Council is responsible will be invaluable," Governor Malloy said. "I've known Robin for many years and continue to be impressed by his professionalism, his intellectual curiosity and the way in which he interacts with other people-a skill-set that will be particularly useful in this new position. The issues before the Siting Council are complex and important and I know that Robin will approach them seriously and with the attention they deserve."

"The Council is responsible for balancing the technological and energy needs of today's society while safeguarding our state's land and environment," Stein said. "I look forward to serving in this important role and collaborating with the many active participants of the process as we balance these needs in a collaborative, constructive and beneficial manner."

Stein began his career with the City of Stamford in 1974 as Assistant Planning and Zoning Director, a position he held through 1995 before becoming Land Use Bureau Chief. He retired from the City of Stamford earlier this year. Prior to working for the City of Stamford, he held positions as a planner for Puerto Montt, Chile and Niagara Falls, New York.

The Connecticut Siting Council has jurisdiction over matters that include telecommunications antennas, electric generating facilities, electric and fuel transmission line facilities, hazardous waste facilities, tower sharing and other telecommunication proceedings.

Stein would replace Dan Caruso as the Chairman of the Connecticut Siting Council. Caruso resigned from the council Thursday, and Governor Malloy thanked Caruso for his years of service leading and contributing significantly to the work of the Council.
