The Federal Government has reopened COVIDtests.gov. Every household can order four over-the-counter COVID-19 tests for free. These tests are intended for use throughout the 2024 holiday season to detect currently circulating COVID-19 variants. Please visit COVIDtests.gov for your free test.

To take part in a teleconference coming up, complete the registration form for the program you wish to participate. Once registered, you will receive confirmation of your registration and instructions on joining the teleconference. Register early as there are a limited number of phone lines. All Physicians, Physician’s Assistants, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and medical office staff are invited to participate.

presentation is to update health care personnel on the latest recommendations for immunization from CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).  The presentation will include resources and job aids to assist providers in their immunization practice. 
The Win/Win/Win campaign was developed by Norwalk Health Department to promote the anti-cancer Human Papillomavirus vaccine to preteens and teenagers in the community.  Any child who visits their doctor’s office to talk about and start or continue the HPV vaccine series can complete a postcard to enter in a drawing for an iPad®.  Two doctor’s offices (small-medium size and large) that enter the most post cards win a free lunch for their staff.  The three wins stand for:  Win iPad®/Win lunch for doctor’s office/Win immunity for child and community.

 

You Are The Key: Getting into the Routine of Recommending Cancer Prevention in Connecticut

Vaccines against human papillomavirus (HPV) are safe, effective, and have been recommended in the United States since 2006 but coverage remains unacceptably low. Lack of protection provided by vaccination leaves adolescents vulnerable to six types of cancer later in life. In this presentation, we will discuss the challenges that clinicians may face in providing effective recommendations for vaccination, and we will provide information and strategies to overcome these barriers. We will also present information about the current status of coverage in Connecticut, and local barriers that have been identified.

HPV Vaccine Reluctance: Talking with Parents

HPV vaccination rates are well below other vaccines administered during adolescence.  Connecticut’s own rate is at an anemic 43%.  Many times, parents hesitate to approve this vaccination for a variety of reasons.  This webinar will review the CDC recommendations for HPV vaccines.  With up to 80% of oropharyngeal cancers in the U.S. caused by infection with the HPV virus, the program will outline the surprising relationships between low HPV vaccination rates and increases in adult head and neck cancer cases.  Because HPV vaccines bring up difficult issues of sexuality, discussions with parents and teens can be challenging.  This program will offer providers with specific strategies for addressing patient or parent reluctance.
