Requests for HIV Surveillance Data

The HIV Surveillance Program routinely shares data with public health partners, community groups, the medical community, students, and anyone interested in learning more about the epidemiology of HIV in Connecticut.

The typical data cycle starts with reportable HIV-related laboratory test results received at DPH which are then entered or imported into the HIV Surveillance System (eHARS). The data is reviewed for completeness and quality and then analyzed to produce accurate and reliable data products for our consumers.

HIV Statistics are updated every 6 months however the June data release for the prior reporting year is considered preliminary. The full processing cycle for de-duplication, death reporting and case reporting is one year.

With regard to security and confidentiality, data that may be identifiable due to small cell sizes are suppressed; for example, numbers or rates are not disclosed for counts <5 cases, and additional counts may be censored to preserve the confidentiality of adjacent cells.

The HIV Surveillance Program processes data requests for specific populations, geographic areas, or time frames. If the HIV Statistics web page  does not include the information you need, email the Program at hivsurveillance.dph@ct.gov. The Program will post the requested data on the website once it becomes available.
