Language Assistance

The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services complies with federal law and Connecticut state statutes. DMHAS does not discriminate against people on the basis of age, alienage, blindness, color, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, race, sex, sexual orientation, status as a veteran or ability to pay. 

DMHAS provides language assistance to persons with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and persons with disabilities on request at no cost as required by Section 1557 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Language assistance is provided persons with LEP receiving DMHAS services and persons with disabilities who are receiving DMHAS services or who are visitors and guests of DMHAS services, programs, and activities.

Language assistance includes interpreters and translations of DMHAS documents. Interpreters may be a qualified DMHAS employee, or a Department of Administrative Services (DAS) approved vendor offered in person or through telepresence, such as: over the phone or video-relay. For information on arranging language assistance at a DMHAS facility, contact the facility.

DMHAS provides Deaf, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing (DHOH) services at its facilities including sign language interpreters.  Each DMHAS facility is responsible for making arrangements and for more information go to: DMHAS Deaf DeafBlind Hard of Hearing Program and Services DHOH (ct.gov)

  • 2-1-1 Infoline is a free, confidential information and referral service that connects people to essential health and human services 24 hours a day, seven days a week by dialing 2-1-1 or 800-203-1234, or online at www.211ct.org. Using the 211 webpage, type "Translation" or "Sign Language Interpretation" in the search box.
  • Department of Administrative Services, DAS-approved vendors can be found on the CTsource Contract Board.

  • Relay CT provides free telecommunication relay services throughout Connecticut including TTY, Voice Carry Over (VCO), Hearing Carry Over (HCO), Speech to Speech (STS), Spanish and CaptTel. Dial 7-1-1.
