DEEP, CFPA Announce Master Woodland Manager Program

Year-long Program for Woodland Owners and Managers Starts in August

(HARTFORD)—The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Forestry Division and the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA), in collaboration with UConn Cooperative Extension, are thrilled to announce the Connecticut Master Woodland Manager Program (MWM), a year-long program consisting of online and field study that provides woodland owners and managers with the knowledge and skills that they need to make the right decisions for their woodland.

The program is open to anyone, but is specifically geared toward those with forest land of their own, or who are involved in forest management through a land conservation organization such as a land trust. Akin to a Master Gardener program, the MWM program provides a flexible, interactive experience that provides both virtual and field learning opportunities where participants will learn from Connecticut’s top forestry and wildlife professionals, and join a community of woodland supporters!

There are different modules, each with an area of focus (such as forest ecology, succession, stand development and forest health) and program participants can pick and choose which classes they enroll in within each module. These virtual classes will be complimented by field components when appropriate.

The MWM program is made possible by a grant from the United States Forest Service and the CFPA, in partnership with DEEP, the University of Connecticut, Yale University, Audubon Connecticut, and the Connecticut Land Conservation Council.

If you’re a woodland owner or manager who values Connecticut's woodlands and wants to help steward them for future generations, wants to support wildlife and reduce the effects of climate change, and wants to help your local economy and preserve the legacy of Connecticut’s woodlands, please apply!

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until August 12, 2021. For more information and to apply, visit the MWM registration page or email Beth Bernard at bbernard@ctwoodlands.org.
