Architect - Continuing Education

Hours Required

12 credit hours per year

Timeline for Completion

All continuing education (CE) hours must be completed between May 1 and April 30 (of the year the credential will renew). Note: This CE completion deadline is 3 months before the renewal deadline.

Proof of Completion

All credential holders must attest to the completion of their required continuing education (CE) as part of the renewal process. Certificates of completion and other related records should be retained by the credential holder for at least six (6) years in case of audit by the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP).

Course Requirements

All continuing education (CE) must be in the category of Health, Safety and Welfare Subjects, as described in the regulations. CE courses must be certified by the American Institute of Architects, N.C.A.R.B., or the Connecticut Office of Data and Education Management (OEDM).

Failure to Complete

If the board or department finds, after proper notice and hearing, that the architect failed to comply with these requirements or falsified documentation of required continuing education (CE), the architect may be subject to enforcement action pursuant to section 20-294 of the Connecticut General Statutes.

Waivers/Exemptions

For reason of health, military service, or other individual hardship, the board may, in its discretion, excuse an architect from continuing education (CE) requirements if the architect otherwise meets all other renewal requirements. If an exemption of an architect from CE requirements is made by the board, the board’s written decision shall be final and not appealable to the department. An architect who has been granted emeritus status by the board or department shall not be subject to CE requirements.
