Talent agencies fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Consumer Protection in cases of complaints about unfair trade practices, such as overbilling, misleading advertising or negative option contracts, whereby the agency considers a client's contract to be ongoing unless the client specifically "opts out" after the initial contract period expires.
