Severe Cold Weather Protocol
What is a Severe Cold Weather Protocol?
For your protection and safety in these difficult times, Governor Lamont may issue a severe cold weather protocol. NOTE: The protocol must be activated by the Governor for the following to apply. You can still call the regular 2-1-1 helpline for cold weather assistance.
While activated, the protocol enacts the following:
- Local, regional, and state emergency personnel can share information and monitor statewide shelter capacities, with 2-1-1 assisting in finding shelter space for those in need. Local officials will alert 2-1-1 and the state when temporary shelters or warming centers are opened.
- The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Department of Social Services, and Department of Housing, work with 2-1-1, the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, and community-based organizations to provide transport for those in need of shelter.
