Module 5: Methods of Instruction/Presentation Skills
Module Length: 3-days delivered in nine weeks
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Define what training/instruction methods are and describe their purposes.
- List at least six different training/instruction methods (e.g., case study, demonstration, group discussion, reading, structured exercises, individual/dyad work).
- Describe the advantages and disadvantages of at least three training/instruction methods.
- Select appropriate training/instruction methods to use based upon the learning objectives, target audience, and practical requirements of conducting the training.
- Explain how a trainers’ preference for the use of particular training/instruction methods could affect students’ learning and retention.
- List at least four training aids and describe general guidelines for their use.
- Prepare and/or demonstrate the use of two training aids (e.g., flipchart page, transparency, handout, desk job aid, PowerPoint slide, or CD/video film).
- Compare and contrast different training delivery alternatives such as classroom training, on-line/web-based options, print media, and experiential-based learning options.
- Create conducive learning environments by effectively using openers/closers, energizers, games, platform delivery skills, and accelerated learning principles as appropriate.
- Demonstrate one of the training/instruction methods during class.
- Provide constructive feedback to other participants regarding their design/use of training aids and their demonstration of a training/instruction method.
Dates Set for Module 5 Methods of Instruction/Presentation Skills of the CTDN Train-the-Trainer Program
The dates for Module 5 Methods of Instruction/Presentation Skills, a three-day training session, have been finalized:
- Day 1 - September 7, 2007
- Day 2 - October 5, 2007
- Day 3 - November 2, 2007
The training will be held at the Department of Labor's central office in Wethersfield. Individuals who are enrolled in the pilot certificate program and have attended the first 3 modules will have priority registration. A few additional seats will be available first come first served. Registration is available online at the DAS Learning Center.
