• Attorney General Joins National Effort To Keep Smoking Out of Movies Targeted At Youth

  Attorney General George Jepsen has joined attorneys general in 37 states and U.S. territories in urging movie studio executives to get smoking out of movies aimed at teenagers and young adults because it is a negative influence that encourages them to smoke.

• Attorney General Joins Multistate Settlement With Skechers USA, Over Deceptive Advertising Charges

  Attorney General George Jepsen said Connecticut has joined with the Federal Trade Commission, 42 states and the District of Columbia in coordinated settlement agreements with Skechers USA, Inc. over allegations of deceptive advertising for certain athletic shoes.

• Bridgeport Grocery Retailer Sued in Trafficking Scheme

  The state is suing a Bridgeport store owner alleging he engaged in a wide-ranging scheme to obtain electronic benefit cards for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (“SNAP”), formerly known as the Food Stamp program, and used them to purchase inventory for his store in violation of federal and state law.

• Attorney General Jepsen Urges Regulators to Disallow Substantial Amount of CL&P’s 2011 Storm Recovery

  In a brief filed today, Attorney General George Jepsen asked the state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to disallow at least $90 million in storm-related costs that the Connecticut Light & Power Co. is seeking to recover from ratepayers. The Attorney General asserts that certain claimed costs are improper or unjustified and that PURA should impose a substantial penalty for the company’s broadly deficient and inadequate response to Tropical Storm Irene and the October 2011 Nor’easter.

  The owners of a Pennsylvania power plant have agreed to stop burning coal in two generating units and to provide $1 million towards environmental mitigation in Connecticut and New Jersey as part of a clean air settlement announced today by Attorney General George Jepsen and Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel C. Esty.
