Proposals Wanted for Prize Sponsorship of
DMV Teen Safe Driving Video Contest
The Department of Motor Vehicles’s Center for Teen Safe Driving conducts a contest for high school students each year to create a short video commercial on teen safe driving. The student-produced commercial is offered to television stations and safety advocates as a public service announcement. The contest is open to all public, private and home-schooled high school students in grades 9 through 12. The contest is planned through the summer and announced in September with submissions required by late December. Final judging occurs in early February with awards presented in early spring. The contest is entering its 10th consecutive year.
The contest offers monetary prizes to the high schools of the top ranking student winners and to student winners. In addition, plaques are also provided to winners. The prizes would come with the stipulation that the money must be used for a teen safe-driving educational program to benefit students in the winning student’s (s) high school or a nearby high school in the instance of someone home-schooled. The prizes would be awarded directly to the schools or another recipient that the DMV and the prize sponsor deem qualified to fulfill the stipulation for using the prize and is willing to accept the prize. The amount of the prizes and contest sponsor have been set each year prior to the announcement of the contest. Read at ct.gov/teendriving/contest prize, rules and other information related to the 2016-2017 contest.
DMV is seeking applications from corporations or other such organizations interested in becoming a prize sponsor of the contest and providing the cash prizes and plaques to students and their schools. The entity selected as a partner will pay these cash prizes directly to the winning high school or/and students.
Offers of prizes must either be in the full amount for one of the established categories of winners (i.e, first, second, third, etc.) for the full amount of all prizes as decided by DMV and the prize sponsor. The State of Connecticut, through DMV, reserves the right to select various partners or one partner as a sponsor(s) and reserves the right to establish all rules for the contest, oversee media and public relations related to the contest, judges involved in selection of winners, timing, notification and announcement of winners and of ownership of the contest. All videos submitted become property of the State of Connecticut. Note: No sponsoring organization or individual shall receive any special preferences from the state because of contest sponsorship. In addition, any organization or individual with a DMV employee having a corporate interest is also prohibited from participating.
Sponsorship selection will be based on ability to provide the full amount of the cash prizes, suitability as a prize partner and the overall mission and goals of the organization as related to safe driving.
Organizations or individuals wanting to be considered as a prize partner should write to william.seymour@ct.gov, explaining the maximum value of the cash prizes they would contribute and any addition prizes it suggests along with an explanation of the organization’s mission and goals that relate to teen safety driving. A name, address and contact number must also be provided. The DMV reserves the right to reject any and all submissions based on suitability and/or regulatory oversight by DMV. The deadline for submissions as prize partners is June 30, 2017.
