Secretary Thomas' Statement on Connecticut General Assembly's Approval of Bonding Package that Includes Funding for New Tabulators

(Hartford, CT) – Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas issued the following statement on the Connecticut General Assembly’s approval of a bipartisan, two-year bonding package (HB 6942) last night:

“This critical funding will enable us to modernize Connecticut’s voting systems through the purchase of new tabulators, which are the most basic tool in our elections process,” said Secretary Thomas. “Our registrars will no longer have to worry about a shrinking market for replacement tabulator parts and will have the most up-to-date technology to efficiently administer our state’s elections. I thank our legislature for understanding the urgent need for this bonding.”

The bonding authorizes $30 million for the Office of the Secretary of State in the first year, plus $3 million in the second year, for the purchase of new tabulators, expansion and integration of the Office’s voter registration information systems, and improvements to the Office’s business registries. The bill now heads to Governor Ned Lamont for his approval.
